IMPROVING YOUR HOME'S VALUE
The staircase in a home is often a central architectural feature and focal point of the home. A stunning staircase can create a great first impression and create a “wow” factor for those people visiting your home. Although completely rebuilding the staircase can be incredibly expensive, there are several ways to update your staircase on a budget.

Painting the balusters and refinishing the handrail can drastically change the look of the staircase. Wood balusters and handrails tend to be scratched and worn by the daily activity of kids and pets in the home. Sanding and painting the balusters and handrail will make them look brand new. Dark handrails with white or cream balusters is a popular look.

Switching out the wood balusters with wrought iron balusters adds a more classic look to the home. To switch out the balusters the only tools you need are a reciprocating saw to cut out the old spindles and a miter saw to cut the new wrought iron balusters to the proper length. The variety of wrought iron balusters you can purchase on the internet is endless. If you are a little more home improvement savvy, you can replace the treads and risers with new, prefinished wood treads and risers. Several online stores sell prefinished treads and risers that allow you to easily replace existing ones or replace your carpeted stairs with wood. Setting the balusters can be challenging if they directly protrude from the tread, but watching several YouTube videos will teach you how to set these properly.
